My First Weigh In

Well, I can't say I'm surprised...

In the last couple years I've gained about 30 pounds and the measurements don't lie.

I finally decided to go back to the gym after I had to buy a new pair of jeans because the 10 I had at home no longer fit. It was pretty disheartening to grow out of those jeans and I absolutely refuse to buy any more than the one I had to so I could continue to wear clothes.

I'm not looking to be 100 pounds, I just want to fit into the 30x30 jeans in my closet. I think it's a good goal.

Why Starbuck? Why Not...

Just to clarify, I do not want to become a completely different person... I want to become a better version of myself.

Over the years, I have struggled to find something or someone to aspire to and for that I sometimes find myself flying through life without a target.

Becoming Starbuck is about about finding the target. I want to be outgoing, brave, candid, happy, sad, excited, loud, reflective, and all the other multitude of things that make up the character of Kara Thrace. However, this isn't just a mental journey; I'm determined to become physically fit and strong.

And frankly, now I have a reason to learn how to make a great cosplay costume. I will be teaching myself, with lots of online help, how to construct a Starbuck outfit from the show. The goal is to wear it at Relay for Life for a SciFi booth on May 3rd, 2014. After that, Comicon 2015.

This blog will help me keep track of the whole process as I change inside and out.

As a side note: I have watched Battlestar Gallactica and I know Starbuck is much more than what I've listed above and has many issues of her own. That's what makes this character great. She struggles with her own demons as I will struggle with mine.
